Just back from our week in Crete, near Hania (Chania) and ready to share some photos. The bay was beautiful, shallow and sandy but the pool was equally alluring, clean and cold and fairly deep. The best thing about it was the way the swallows dived down to drink from it while we were sunbathing on the loungers. We didn’t have any evening entertainment so we lingered over our meals in a local taverna and were plied with the local drink, raki. We took one organised trip, to a farm in the mountains where they put on a Greek evening. I have a picture of the windmill there but did not photograph the dancers. Another day we took a trip to the orange groves and picked an orange and we also went on a land train to a gorge with very dramatic scenery, including enormous caves where the resistance fighters used to hide.
Hania town was very attractive but touristy. Everywhere we went people kept giving us free tasters, mostly raki or cheese pies. The sunshine was so welcome after our horrible winter. Once I get used to putting pictures on computer I’ll be content.
