Now for the hard work
One hundred pages later and my manuscript is ready. If I can bear to part with it I’ll ask a competent friend to read it and find all the mistakes. I dare not give it to the printer until someone else has seen it.
It needs editing for spacing errors, continuity errors, punctuation errors and stupid things like calling someone by the wrong name (I found one of those already!) Then serious things like people behaving out of character or the weather being wrong for the time of year.
Setting it in the 1960’s may mean I have got something wrong about that period. I think I can just about remember what it was like. I must try not to get impatient to see it as a finished novel. There’s plenty to do before that happens!
